Hip Kit Club | Laugh Out Loud

I'm doing guest spots at Hip Kit Club this month, making several layouts and writing posts for their blog.  I created a few pages to use up all the goodies in the kits (and still have tons left) and just for fun :)

I started by cutting the title using a HKC exclusive cut file, then hand-stitched around it.  I added some zigzag stitches around the perimeter of the page.  I wanted to add more color to the white background, so I used Great Fruit and Anchor's Away Shimmerz from the Color Kit.

My paper got a bit warped from gesso and paints so it wasn't too easy to get good photos!

The photo has a few layers of project life cards behind it and I also used Maggie Holmes ephemera along with a Crate Paper tassel and twine from my stash.

I'm still machine-stitching just about everything I can get my hands on ;)

Hip Kit Club | Keep Music In Your Heart

Miss Q's piano teacher just celebrated her birthday and it inspired me to make this layout.

I started by using a cut file as a stencil and used Great Fruit Shimmerz over the stencil.  I then fussy cut a few Maggie Holmes flowers to use as embellishments.

I used some Dear Lizzy gold alphas from my stash to mix in with the Pinkfresh alphas from the September Hip Kits.  I love this combo of blue, gold and ballet slipper pink.

Simple Stories die cuts and Pinkfresh chipboard hearts keep this page feminine and pretty.

My only regret is the journaling is a bit difficult to read.  But we know how special Miss Jo is, so it's ok.  I finished the page with Simple Stories enamel dots.

Hip Kit Club | Dream

I was so inspired by this lovely blue color in the Hip Kit Club August kits.  I absolutely love the color mixed with soft pink and pale peach, there's a piece of card stock from the Dear Lizzy line that guided my choices when I watercolored these feathers.

I started the page by drawing the feathers with my Silhouette, watercoloring and then hand-stitching the border of each feather with pale grays and a soft peach color.

I embellished with the exclusive ephemera pack by Hip Kit Club, pulling out all the items with these delicious blues.

The end result is a soft and dreamy layout.

Hip Kit Club | Loved This

I have to be honest, I don't get the donut thing.  I'm about 100% sure I've never used a donut on a layout.

That being said, I'm working towards being more..... random.  I'm not a theme scrapper.  I like eclectic and funky.  So here's to using a donut on a page, finally!

This is a photo from Mardi Gras taken by my ultra-talented friend Rebekah.  Our friend Sasha loves a theme and when we made lunch plans on Mardi Gras, Sasha showed up with all sorts of Mardi Gras fun for the kids!

The gold glitter washi is from the August Gossamer Blue kits, and the tiny alpha's are an old Glitz Design sticker sheet I've had for ages.

The ampersand totally moved and I didn't realize it until the photos were taken.  Here's to being random!

Hip Kit Club | Wonderful

It's no secret I adore the files from The Cut Shoppe.  This scallop background is a bunch of fun and I had to buy it and use it immediately.

I used Amy Tangerine products from August Hip Kit Club kits, I love that striped background paper. The yellow twinkle dots are from my stash.

I wanted to use all three photos in this series so I printed them tiny; I know this drives some people crazy but scrapping for me right now is about the creating and using up stuff.  I want to get more stuff on my pages and have a fun page, all at once.  It's just where I am right now.

I added in black thread to tie in the black brush script, along with a few black splatters.  This page is just a big pile of color!

Go big or go home ;)

Hip Kit Club | Hello Adorable Girls

My friend Sasha took this photo of our girls when we were on a lunch date.  It's incredibly sweet.

I used Crate Paper and Dear Lizzy products on this page, the cut file is an exclusive from Hip Kit Club.

You'll be seeing a lot of those Thickers on upcoming pages, I really really like them.

Wood veneer alphas in a fun font!  I used Shimmerz No Yolking to color them.

Mr. Huey's black spray ink to add a bit of contrast and to tie in the other black elements.

I decided to cut the edge from the cut file and adhere it in two pieces, just to change things up.  Not a new idea, just something I haven't done in a long time.

Hip Kit Club | Live Simply

I tried something a bit different for me on this layout with August kits from Hip Kit Club.  Instead of smooshing with spray inks I decided to use Prima watercolor pencils to add in a bit of color here and there.

I used a water brush pen to doodle a bit, adding a few intersecting lines for some additional interest on the background paper.  No gesso this time, and the paper didn't warp much because of the limited water.

The result was a bit of soft color which I think makes the fussy cut flowers stand out a bit more.  I especially love the delicate spatter I got from flicking my water brush against the pencils.  So soft and girly, even though I used black.

I added a random flair from my stash because it was sitting on my desk and the colors worked ;)

Hip Kit Club | Play Together

This one is a bit different for me, as purple isn't a color I use all that often.  I find it's one of the least used colors in scrapbook lines.  But isn't it pretty?

This layout started out totally different, I won't even begin to tell you the mess it was.  I hate having to rip apart a page and I rarely do, but yeah, hot mess.

I think what saved it was adding in the gray chevron paper to one side.  The squares on their own were just too much for my photo.

That lime really pops with this color scheme.  On a white background it got so washed out.  And I love the gold against the purple.

Hip Kit Club | Happily Ever After

Another layout using the Hip Kit Club July kits, this time I used an exclusive cut file as the main feature of my page.

I used a Silhouette sketch pen to draw the cut file, then watercolored it with some Shimmerz paints.  I also added some Shimmerz by smooshing it on the paper.  The photo is matted with several sheets of papers from the July kits.

I'll be honest, stitching those flowers drove me a bit crazy, haha!  But, as always with hand stitching, it's so worth the outcome.

Those gold puffy stickers by Freckled Fawn are adorable!  I kept the embellishing to a minimum so the hand stitching could be the star of the show.

Hip Kit Club | Enjoy

This one is a current fave.

I loooooove the houses cut file designed by Kim Watson for HKC.  Isn't it adorable?  Add in rainbow paper from Bella Blvd and yep, cutest thing I ever did see!

It did take a minute to insert all those windows, I'll be honest.  But totally worth the outcome!

Puffy stickers, die cuts and flair exclusives, along with black thread and a tiny bit of mixed media were all I needed to get this cute page completed.

Hip Kit Club | Darling

 July kits from Hip Kit Club are pretty rad.

Bright color, pops of black.... yeah,  They're good :)

I started with the floral wreath, designed by The Cut Shoppe for Scrapbook Nerd.  I fussy cut tons of flowers from a HKC exclusive paper and then just added more and more and more until I was happy with the result.

Those acrylic dots remind me of yummy candies!

HKC Shine

Doing a quick layout share today, featuring June kits from Hip Kit Club and a cut file from The Cut Shoppe.

Of course there's Shimmerz on the background ;)

Sometimes I just want to keep it simple, use a tried and true layout style that always works for me. It's not always about being brand new and different, but about getting the layout scrapped and the memory recorded.
